Base Launches MCP for AI Agents and Crypto Wallets

Base introduced the MCP protocol, which allows connecting crypto wallets to AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, and others. This enables managing on-chain operations directly from a chat interface.

Users will be able to check balances and transaction history, transfer cryptocurrency, make swaps, view their portfolio, and interact with DeFi protocols within the Base ecosystem — all directly through an AI interface.

At launch, MCP supports Morpho, Uniswap, Aerodrome, Moonwell, Bankr, Avantis, and Virtuals. Skill plugins are also available to extend functionality, allowing additional on-chain apps and protocols to be connected directly within the chat.

On the technical side, Base MCP operates via OAuth 2.1 for user authorization, while transactions are formed as requests that are stored in the system and sent to the user for confirmation through their Base Account. Private keys are never shared with the AI — all operations require manual confirmation.
